Russian Criminal Tattoos and Playing Cards

A unique insight into the design of hand-made Soviet prison playing cards and their link to the Russian criminal underworld. This book reveals the importance of playing cards in Russian criminal culture. The hand-made decks are beautiful works of art in their own right. Prohibited by the prison authorities, they are constructed from innocuous materials procured from the everyday routine of prison life. During construction both the cards and their designs are adroitly manipulated so they can be 'read'. Once complete the 'virtuoso' player prowls the prison, searching for a suitable victim. This complete process is described here for the first time. Extensive diagrams show how the cards are made, while decks of actual prison cards are reproduced in facsimile. The book also features a further 180 photographs from the Arkady Bronnikov collection. The texts and captions accompanying these images reveal the connection between the criminal hierarchy, tattoos and playing cards. The respect commanded by any criminal was directly related to his ability to play, and win, at cards. The game was viewed as a means to demonstrate cunning and bravado. Failure to pay a gambling debt could result in a forcibly applied pornographic tattoo, lowering their bearer's status. The loser would also be made to pay the 'pricker' (tattooist). Fingers, ears, even eyes, might be lost - cut off in the presence of other prisoners as witnesses.

My MILF Gangbang Fantasy: When My Fake Request ...

Now that I was ready to get back in the meat market, I kind of went crazy but I went crazy with individuals. Then, in the midst of playful banter I made up a fantasy but I had no idea I'd be taken seriously! That's what happened, though, and my silly banter got me right into a situation I couldn't have expected. In this case, I talked myself right into a gangbang filled with rough sex, first anal sex, and double penetration! Warning: This audiobook contains very explicit descriptions of sexual activity and includes group sex, rough sex, first anal sex, double penetration, rough deepthroat, reluctant semen swallowing, ass to mouth, and more. Only mature adults who won't find that offensive should listen to this story. Here is a preview: I thought it was all bravado, so when I said the next words, it was really intended to tell him something he couldn't take care of, as though no matter how great of a porn star he was, he couldn't have two cocks, right? "I want a gangbang." He raised an eyebrow and his expression became sardonic so I said, "Oh, I've always wanted a gangbang," as though it was the most natural thing in the world for me to say. And that was where I got myself into trouble. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sophia Chambers. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/080045/bk_acx0_080045_sample.mp3. Throughout my life I have done things my way, and they have always worked out - as if I've had luck in my corner. Of course there were challenges along the way, but these were always dealt with head-on and produced great results. This approach brought me around the globe: living from Tel Aviv to London to Tokyo to Jakarta to Buenos Aires; from Wall Street to Main Street to Midaq Alley; from an apartment on Fifth Avenue to living out of my car. No matter what, I was “all in.” This approach has brought me both failures and successes, including a once-thriving business. All of my optimism and bravado came to a crashing halt one cold December holiday night, when after an evening out with good friends, I suffered an accident. I was beaten with a pipe and later found under a moving train, resulting in quadriplegia. Given virtually no chance to walk again, I was devastated. But I also had hope, and lots of it. A fire that exists deep within, and has since childhood, burns on no matter the circumstances. I am here for a bigger mission. What would that mission now be?Nothing could have prepared me for what was to come. Every part of my life - emotional, physical, mental, spiritual, financial, including family and friend relationships, suffered. Still, not 10 seconds of pity passed through me while I lay on that gurney in a cold, dark, sterile hall in the trauma center, with a priest's hand on my arm; I was determined to recover, to heal. This sense of optimism was supported by a deep inner belief that all things in life are impermanent, and no matter how bad it was, it too would eventually pass. Having a background as an entrepreneur, I organized and operated my recovery as a business, down to a daily spreadsheet that had my time split into 15-minute segments. This process changed me in deep, introspective ways, allowing me to get in touch with my heart - with compassion for myself and others. As a result, today I am a changed man; a new person 1. Produced by John Porter (of Roxy Music) and Mark Howard, this is the first new music Jones has written in over a decade. This work is inspired by many years of sitting with all the events of my life until I had something to paint with, says Rickie. Barbarians at the Gate: The Fall of RJR Nabisco

ggf. zzgl. Versand

A book that stormed both the bestseller list and the public imagination, a book that created a genre of its own, and a book that gets at the heart of Wall Street and the '80s culture it helped define, Barbarians at the Gate has emerged twenty years after the tumultuous deal it so brilliantly recounts as a modern classic—a masterpiece of investigatory journalism and a rollicking book of corporate derring-do and financial swordsmanship. The fight to control RJR Nabisco during October and November of 1988 was more than just the largest takeover in Wall Street history. Marked by brazen displays of ego not seen in American business for decades, it became the high point of a new gilded age and its repercussions are still being felt. The tale remains the ultimate story of greed and glory—a story and a cast of characters that determined the course of global business and redefined how deals would be done and fortunes made in the decades to come. Barbarians at the Gate is the gripping account of these two frenzied months, of deal makers and publicity flaks, of an old-line industrial powerhouse (home of such familiar products a Oreos and Camels) that became the victim of the ruthless and rapacious style of finance in the 1980s. As reporters for The Wall Street Journal, Burrough and Helyar had extensive access to all the characters in this drama. They take the reader behind the scenes at strategy meetings and society dinners, into boardrooms and bedrooms, providing an unprecedentedly detailed look at how financial operations at the highest levels are conducted but also a richly textured social history of wealth at the twilight of the Reagan era. At the center of the huge power struggle is RJR Nabisco's president, the high-living Ross Johnson. It's his secret plan to buy out the company that sets the frenzy in motion, attracting the country's leading takeover players: Henry Kravis, the legendary leveraged-buyout king whose entry into the fray sets off an acquisitive commotion; Peter Cohen, CEO of Shearson Lehman Hutton and Johnson's partner, who needs a victory to propel his company to an unchallenged leadership in the lucrative mergers and acquisitions field; the fiercely independent Ted Forstmann, motivated as much by honor as by his rage at the corruption he sees taking over the business he cherishes; Jim Maher and his ragtag team, struggling to regain credibility for the decimated ranks at First Boston; and an army of desperate bankers, lawyers, and accountants, all drawn inexorably to the greatest prize of their careers—and one of the greatest prizes in the history of American business. Written with the bravado of a novel and researched with the diligence of a sweeping cultural history, Barbarians at the Gate is present at the front line of every battle of the campaign. Here is the unforgettable story of that takeover in all its brutality. In a new afterword specially commissioned for the story's 20th anniversary, Burrough and Helyar return to visit the heroes and villains of this epic story, tracing the fallout of the deal, charting the subsequent success and failure of those involved, and addressing the incredible impact this story—and the book itself—made on the world.

Containing Multitudes

Walt Whitman burst onto the literary stage raring for a fight with his transatlantic forebears. With the unmetered and unrhymed long lines of Leaves of Grass, he blithely forsook 'the old models' declaring that 'poems distilled from other poems will probably pass away.' In a self-authored but unsigned review of the inaugural 1855 edition, Whitman boasted that its influence-free author 'makes no allusions to books or writers; their spirits do not seem to have touched him.' There was more than a hint here of a party-crasher's bravado or a new-comer's anxiety about being perceived as derivative. But the giants of British literature were too well established in America to be toppled by Whitman's patronizing 'that wonderful little island,' he called England-or his frequent assertions that Old World literature was non grata on American soil. As Gary Schmidgall demonstrates, the American bard's manuscripts, letters, prose criticism, and private conversations all reveal that Whitman's negotiation with the literary 'big fellows' across the Atlantic was much more nuanced and contradictory than might be supposed. His hostile posture also changed over the decades as the gymnastic rebel transformed into Good Gray Poet, though even late in life he could still crow that his masterwork Leaves of Grass 'is an iconoclasm, it starts out to shatter the idols of porcelain.' Containing Multitudes explores Whitman's often uneasy embrace of five members of the British literary pantheon: Shakespeare, Milton, Burns, Blake, and Wordsworth (five others are treated more briefly: Scott, Carlyle, Tennyson, Wilde, and Swinburne). It also considers how the arcs of their creative careers are often similar to the arc of Whitman's own fifty years of poem-making. Finally, it seeks to illuminate the sometimes striking affinities between the views of these authors and Whitman on human nature and society. Though he was loath to admit it, these authors anticipated much that we now see as quintessentially Whitmanic.
